I was a mechanic before I went to uni

I was a mechanic for eleven years before I started university and I found study very difficult. I was 28 years old with a family to support and very little money.

But I persevered and I was so thankful to receive the financial support of a scholarship.

My first job was at the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies.

Then I went on to the Department of Immigration, Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs.

With the confidence gained from completing my first degree I decided to go back to uni to study a Master's in Information Technology.

I then worked at The Australian National University (ANU), before landing my dream job as Director of the Tjabal Indigenous Higher Education Centre at ANU.

In 2010 I submitted my PhD. My dream had been to go as far as I could with study.

That journey started a long time ago at my first university lecture. If you dream and believe, it will happen!
