Think big and meet the challenges head on
I began university with four very young children and very little money. I had a burning desire to follow a legal career and completed my undergraduate law degree and a graduate diploma at the University of Wollongong, as well as completing other degrees.
I was awarded a number of scholarships at university. However, to keep them, I had to maintain a distinction average. There were also a range of social and financial issues that continually challenged my study, and the requirement to work part-time or full-time at various stages of my university study in order to make ends meet.
Last year I worked in remote Western Australia and I currently work as a Senior Legal Officer with the Australian Law Reform Commission in Sydney where my work focuses on Commission inquiries.
If you are going to study, be passionate about it and be prepared to rearrange your private life. Aim high in your standards, don’t "just pass" to finish the degree. Think big and meet the challenges head on and you will reap the rewards for your family and your community as well as motivating others around you.
